Valluvar Kottam

Thiru Valluvar is the greatest poet and saint in Tamilnadu. Thirukkural (collection of 1330 two liner poems divided in 133 chapters) is one of his popular work which has been translated in many languages in the world.

Valluvar Kottam is a memorial built by the government of Tamilnadu. Interesting thing is this place is a lake long time back and then used as a place to dispose garbage. Now this is one of the places visited by most in Chennai.

This building is built in a Naval way with a temple look. This has two floors in its main building. This building has a very big auditorium in the ground floor and the floor above with full of 1330 tamil poems written in marbles. It is translated in english and many other world languages. Behind the building there is a beautiful, glorious, stone made and 33mt tall chariot which has the thiruvalluvar temple in the top. You can reach this temple from the main building. The temple has a life size statue of thiruvalluvar.

You will also find some good collection of books here.

Any one will love this place.
