Kovalam(40 Kms)

Kovalam is a bech which has a unique environment. This is a fishing village where we can see a Dargah and a Catholic church that attract pilgrims.

The beach was small but many people love this. You can see few rocks on the sea shore and the waves hitting and raising. Fun to watch. This is very nearer to Muttukadu boating point. One who visits Muttukadu can visit this too.

Elliot’s Beach

Elliot’s Beach is a another beach which admires tourist and local people these days. This beach is located near Adyar and Thiruvanmiyoor in Chennai.

There is Velankanni church at one end of the beach. This church is built on similar lines to the church in Nagapattinam and so attracts a large number of pilgrims.

The Astalakshmi temple, which houses ten different forms of Goddess Lakshmi is another favourite place for devotees and tourists.

Hotel Sravana Bhavan and the Murugan Idly shops are very famous restaurants located here which attracts food lovers.

Mamallapuram


Mamallapuram is a historical place located about 60 kms from Chennai. This was built during the Kingdom of Pallavas around 8th century. The sculpture made in stone are really eligible for the 7 wonders of the world.

It is also a beach resort offering wide range of hotels to stay. Tourists are charged a one-time Entry fee for all monuments. five caves and the beach temple are ancient architectural beauties and would admire anyone.

For visiting the five caves and the beach temple, charges will be Rs.10 or US$5. These monuments will be opened only from morning 06:30 AM to evening 05:30 PM.

Santhome Cathedral Basilica

Basilica is an early Christian church designed like a Roman basilica; or a Roman Catholic church or cathedral accorded certain privileges.

Santhome at the southern end of the Marina gets its name from St.Thomas, the Apostelic Father of Jesus who came to India sometime during 52 A.D. and killed on St. Thomas Mount just in 78 AD. Iy is believed that his remains interred in Santhome beach where a church was later built.

Several years later, another church was built further inland and his mortal remains were transferred here.

The Marina Beach




The Marina Beach of Chennai is the second longest beach in the world and has a wide sandy shore. Samadhis or memorials dedicated to C.N.Annadurai and M.G.Ramachandran, both former Chief Ministers of the state located near beach adds beauty to the beach. Some of the most beautiful buildings in Chennai such as the University of Madras, the Senate House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College and the Ice House are located on the beach drive.

Kannagi statue and labours day monument are other famous landmarks here.
